March is the month for madness – the good kind of madness, as in college basketball tournament time.
We celebrated the all-out effort both men’s and women’s basketball teams exhibited during the NCAA Division I tournaments, and had a little fun with our own bracket challenge. At the same time, we used the season to focus on what makes teams great – talent, teamwork and effort.
I’ll quote Coach John Wooden one more time.
“Success is peace of mind, which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to do your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming.”
We are succeeding.
Sunstone Cities Busy
Sunstone Cities began March with a brand-new MOU with the nonprofit Alliance for SoCal Innovation and immediately put the partnership to use looking for ways to help municipalities and special districts with economic development, infrastructure and more.
It was a selling point when I attended the League of California Cities Conference in Rancho Mirage. I made a lot of new contacts, and Sunstone Cities is getting to be known in the municipalities arena.
Our Economic Development Officer, Jayro Sandoval, had a focus on healthcare in March, attending the Association of California Health Districts conference to explain the Sunstone Cities Public Infrastructure Financing Solutions program to help rural hospitals looking for financing.
Both Jayro and project manager Ryan Phong are working hard on April events – the Sunstone Economic Development Challenge @ USC Price on April 17 and the Irvine Dream Run on April 26. Let’s make sure we support them at both events.
Teams Step Up
The Sunstone finance team spent March wrapping up the fiscal year for more than 20 of our entities, with audits, corporate statements and tax filings completed much earlier than ever before.
The administration team continues to dot the “I”s and cross the “t”s to complete our conversion to the Sunstone Investment Group Holding Company and a new Sunstone Investment Group LLC. The transition will take place soon.
That’s it for March from the CEO’s Desk. Thanks for joining us, and remember, always be a Sunstone.
